Artistic intentionVisual artist inspired by nature
Julie Laforêt is a visual artist deeply connected to the living world. Living in the heart of nature within the Morvan Regional Park, her artistic commitment is anchored in transcribing and transmitting the essence of life and its cycles.
Julie’s works and installations belong to the ecological art and Land Art movements, infused with a profound Japanese inspiration. Her approach is driven by the desire to use all natural elements found near her home or in the wild as her primary raw materials.
To achieve this, she walks through the forest, letting herself be guided by what is present in each moment. Every material encountered on her path becomes a source of discovery and connection. By allowing the materials to lead her, she seeks an inner edge to become the forest itself, to merge with the Earth. Thus, she transcends her mere human condition to connect with natural elements and fully receive life in all its essence.
Each material is transformed into art through various practices. Plants are used for dyeing and botanical printing, but can also be dried and integrated into 3D forms. Bark can be used to make paper or incorporated into sculptures. Tree trunks can be printed to leave their imprint on paper or fabric. Stones can be ground down to be used as pigments or as central elements in sculptures. The resulting works are ecological, biodegradable, and natural, reflecting the artist’s dual intention to capture the essence of life.
The first intention is to bear witness to life’s ephemeral nature by creating art prints of impermanent works originally produced for exhibitions or artistic projects. The second intention, conversely, is that of the trace: to preserve proof of the Earth’s passage by creating works that embody what life is today, anchoring this moment in a longer timeframe (exclusively through large-format works).
